While the artist in residence at Grand staircase Escalante National Monument I watched some of the most incredible sunrises from an overlook called Head of the Rocks. Looking out at an incredibly complex landscape of slickrock, mesas, mountains, and canyons, I loved the way the first light simplified the landscape into color and shape.
This painting is part of a series exploring the beauty of these sunrises.
