Rainbow Rock

from $15.00

This was my first painting of the incredible stone made while the Artist in Residence at Petrified Forest National Park. The colors in this piece of stone still amaze me (yes, the colors really are that vibrant!!) The original of this painting is in my personal collection, and it might be my favorite from the residency because it embodies the experimentation and excitement of learning to paint these unbelievable rocks.

I was amazed by the incredible colors and patterns captured in these amazing rocks that are nearly 2 million years old. In the stone, I could even see the rings of the trees, patterns of the bark, and cracks along branches. The original painting of this piece was 11x14 inches, and was painted to scale with the petrified wood piece.

The wood was not cut to look like this- it breaks naturally along smooth planes (think of what happens when we drop a piece of chalk- it splits into rounds, and the jasper and other compounds in the petrified wood have the same fracture patterns).

Archival museum quality giclée print that replicates the colors of the original painting. Signed by hand. Flat rate five dollar shipping in the US.
