"Headlamps diffuse against the night like black watercolor blurred on wet paper. I look down at my rope team and I can’t tell who is who; they could be anyone I know, or no one. 13,000 feet up Mount Rainier, the distinctive features of the individuals I spent the last three days with are completely obscured in layers of warm clothing. In their shadows hunched against the wind, I see myself, and why I am here." Excerpt from the story that accompanies this painting in the REI Force of Nature Publication.
